Me and my work

I perform a variety of tests and experiments on equipment used to image the body

I work in a hospital and my job involves carrying out a number of experiments on a variety of equipment. The equipment uses radiation in order to view parts of the human body and so it is my responsibility to make sure the correct amount of radiation is given to the patient and that the equipment will produce good images of the body. This helps doctors work out what is wrong with the patient.

I also carry out projects to help find the latest technology that could be useful in medical physics imaging.

My Typical Day

Carry out a number of tests on a piece of equipment and analyse the results

I will travel to a hospital department anywhere in Glasgow and perform all the required tests on the imaging equipment. I will analyse the results and produce a report.

I will also carry out project work which involves designing experiments and investigating the best way to use the technology which I have been given.

What I'd do with the money

I would use the money to try and help organise themed events at various schools

Often people are unaware of the variety of jobs within science. I would like to use the money to run themed events at schools which will promote the use of physics within medicine. The money would let me obtain a variety of equipment as well as enlist the help of several volunteers in order to make the day a success.
