Oh yes! I remember sitting in chair at my dad’s house in 1997 and at 6.45 pm on Sunday evening it felt as if I had just been hit by a truck. I remember saying “What was that?” A week later I had bacterial pneumonia as a consequence of influenza. I then read a description of influenza in a very good text book on infectious diseases and I had every symptom, even recalling the time the symptoms started! I would not have believed it until I had experienced it myself. I never took time off work, but was off for 3 weeks – all for a little virus!

The worst thing I’ve had was glandular fever – I had it at university when I was studying for my exams – it wasn’t fun! Luckily that’s the worst thing though…and I hope I don’t get anything worse.
