      Gosh, so many.

      It would have been great to work out the DNA code! DNA is the blueprint for all of our cells, it pretty much has all of the information about us in there! So much of biology is based upon this fantastic discovery.

      I would have liked to be the person that found a molecule called green fluorescent protein. This was originally found in a type of jellyfish and it shines bright green- you can even see it with your eye. This type of molecule is used so often by scientists and it is even being used as a way to target cancers so surgeons can see exactly where the tumour is when they perform an operation to remove it!

      I think I would have liked to have made the discovery made by the recently deceased Prof Carl Woese, who found the third domain of life – 1. Prokaryotes (bacteria), 2. Eukaryotes (cells such as ours with a nucleus) and what he found, 3. Archaea (something in between). No body accepted it for years, until it became mainstream science – wonderful and just how new science progresses.
