Hmm, I haven’t really thought about this. It could be that they’re allergic to them, like how some people are allergic to peanuts, their bodies react to it – in this case it would just be stomach cramps rather than anaphylaxis with peanuts.

It could also be that the prawns were contaminated and it is food poisoning I guess. On the other hand, I know a couple of people who just don’t like the idea of eating prawns and when they know they’ve eaten them they feel strange. Sorry I couldn’t really give you a definite answer!

Like Stefan said, sometimes people are allergic to seafoods – but I don’t really know why this is!

Another reason why prawns and other seafoods are likely to make you is is actually by poisoning you 🙁 Tiny little algae-like creatures can build up inside the prawns/oysters/mussels etc produces toxins (poisonous substances). Unfortunately, they are heat-stable, meaning that even the heat of cooking wont kill them off! Seafood poisoning is actually quite common, and can be quite serious if you have a particularly bad episode.

Prawns give me a queasy tummy- mainly because I do not like the taste of them! They may make some people ill if they aren’t cooked properly and cause food poisoning. Also if the prawns are prepared alongside cooked food then bacteria can be easily transferred!
