Probably the worst effect of alcohol is that you can do things that you normally wouldn’t do when drunk. This can be dangerous or even fatal to yourself, others, or both!
As most people know, drinking alcohol makes you feel things differently, this is because it does some crazy things in your brain. There’s quite a lot of issues with dependence of alcohol and psychological problems too, mostly because things that aren’t meant to be happening much in your brain are!
I guess there’s other issues like alcohol has a lot of calories in it and it can effect loads of key organs other than the brain. This is like the liver, reproductive organs, heart and pancreas!

Alcohol is bad because it can damage the cells in your liver which are called hepatocytes. The liver is responsible for removing all the toxins from your body. When we drink lots of alcohol, it travels to your liver where the body tries to remove it but it can result in an inflammatory reaction. This means that lots of molecules are released to try and break down the alcohol but it also damages the hepatocytes. These liver cells can actually repair themselves but sometimes the damage caused by the alcohol is too much and we can develop a disease called alcoholic liver disease which can only be treated with a liver transplant

The simple answer is that alcohol is a poison! It poisons your cells and your liver has to work extra hard to try and get rid of all the toxins that are now in the blood after drinking alcohol.
Like Stefan says too, alcohol can have lots of other effects that can be bad!
Somebody once told me that if alcohol had been invented today it would’ve been banned because it is so dangerous! It’s only because it has been around for so many years that we still have it.
